Heirlooms for a new server, Part I

Quite some time ago, one of my attacks of Altoholism led me to start new toons on a new server.  This was without all the help that I have on other servers, without taking a toon across with bags, money, and the all-important heirlooms.

This is the scenario that any new player faces, one that often gets lost in the mass of veteran players - a quick search for farming honor (once you weed out the botting and pay services) basically boils down to "Now you are at 85, here is what to do". I thought that I would put down some of my thoughts and findings.

If you don't especially want to enjoy the leveling journey, and want to get to max level, heirlooms are your friend. In fact they are almost a necessity. The new player has three ways to get heirlooms. Firstly, they can play the revamped Darkmoon Faire for tickets, and buy the heirlooms that way. It's a relatively simple way to go, but it is quite time-consuming and can take some months. ... I say time-consuming, but one thing that I have come to realise is that at low level, if you are trying to fit out even a single toon with heirlooms, you are going to have to invest a LOT of time.  Yes, you will have heirlooms, eventually, but one or more of your toons will be pretty high level before that happens, so just keep that in mind.

After the Faire, there is farming honor to buy the PvP heirlooms, and finally spending thousands of gold and buying the guild heirlooms.

The Faire is pretty simple. Do the quests, as often as you can, and even if you sell any of the BoE Faire stuff you might get, two to three months should get you one piece.  Keep in mind that planning which heirlooms can or will be handed down to other toons - it will save you a heap of money and or time, but it will also lead to toons in sub-optimal gear, and missing the armor class bonuses. Whether or not that is a good thing is a decision only you can make.

In my next post, I'll look at farming Honor, and finally, the guild heirlooms.
